Definitions
A country in Central America or a type of woven hat.
Word origin
Borrowed from Spanish Panamá, of unknown origin. Possibly from a Chibchan language such as Kuna, or another indigenous language of the region (such as Cueva, which is barely attested and is now extinct).
Used in a sentence
“A man, a plan, a canal — Panama!”
“Economists at Capital Economics wrote in an August note that dollarized countries El Salvador, Panama and Ecuador show “markedly lower inflation than elsewhere in the region.””
